"No sunny dispositions here"

Films: The Dawnseeker (2018)

Alias: None

Type: Alien

Location: Forest

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Evil

Summary: Of course the Asylum made a mockbuster of "The Predator". And of course it has all the effects budget of a wet blanket. But at the very least, the horrible CGI they usually inflict on their creatures was kept to a minimum here. In fact, the main baddie is one of their most convincing creatures. The bar is subterranean practically, but still.

History: In the 23rd century, the sun is fizzling out, and Earth is doomed. The only solution is on a distant planet called Onia Prime. There, the rare object known as Stardust can replenish the sun and save our world. But Stardust doesn't come free. A vicious hunter known as the Dawnseeker is aiming to kill every last one of the people sent on the daring mission. And he's not too shabby with it either.

Notable Kills: A classical western showdown ends in its favor.

Final Fate: By the end of the whole thing, only two survivors are left to fight the Dawnseeker. Working together, they beat it, and one slices its head off. With Stardust in tow, they head back home.

Powers/Abilities: The Dawnseeker has a large assortment of weapons, including a laser-powered spear tipped with an animal's claw, plasma blasters, a shield to deflect enemy fire, and special blades. He can also command odd cyborg predators.

Weakness: Heavy artillery.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-At first, the Dawnseeker looks like a true monster. Sure, it's a pure Yautja rip-off, but that toothy maw it has combined with its many eyes and assortment of methods in killing you will make you realize that there is fortune in copying the best of the best. Then again, there are times where the poor thing is clearly a guy in a suit, to the point where one would be forgiven for thinking they had wandered into the making of an old "Star Trek" episode. Also, those beasts got the brunt of bad effects. The Asylum should NEVER try stop-motion again.

Trivia: -The Dawnseeker was played by Robert Thomas Ross. Seeing him without the mask and looking perpetually pissed is something, to say the least. Maybe he was the perfect guy for the job.

-Rather embarrassingly, the filmmakers lost the area of principle photography the day before they set out to work. The switch to Turner Falls in Ardmore, OK was a last-minute move.
